Colour guide: find the henna colour that suits you
ZENZ Botanical Henna is a natural, nourishing treatment that both colors and strengthens hair without unnecessary chemicals. Suitable for all hair types.
Use our color guide to find the perfect shade for you.
Please note: It is not recommended to use the Mahogany, Chocolate or Espresso colour on grey hair or on dark blonde to light blonde hair. The colour may develop into a warmer tone over 7 days.
How to use the colour chart
For blonde hair, you can see the expected results with the 8 different ZENZ henna colors under the 'Blonde' column. For medium brown hair, the expected results are listed under 'Brown,' while for dark brown hair, they are shown under 'Dark Brown.'
The color chart is a guideline, as the final result can be affected by your hair’s color, condition, and processing time. We therefore recommend doing a strand test before coloring your entire head. Choose your lightest strand or the area with the most gray hair to get the most accurate result.
YOU CAN MIX YOUR HENNA HAIR COLOR WITH OTHER PLANT INGREDIENTS TO ADJUST THE SHADE
- Green tea – reduces yellow or red tones in lighter shades.
- Black tea – enhances brown pigments.
- Black coffee – deepens the color.
- Boiling water – intensifies the color.
- Soured dairy (like yogurt) – lightens red shades and makes orange pigments more vibrant.
- ZENZ Oil Treatment – makes the henna easier to apply and rinse out, and prevents the mixture from drying while it's working in the hair.
The color becomes more intense if the hair is kept warm and moist during treatment.
Please note:
- Mahogany, Chocolate, Espresso: Not recommended for light/blonde to light brown hair (lighter than level 6) or grey hair.
- Champagne, Pumpkin, Mahogany, Chocolate, Espresso: Contain the ingredient Indigo and may therefore change within 48 hours after colouring. The result will become more even once oxidized.
- Bleach on botanical hair colours: If you colour your hair with ZENZ plant-based hair colour containing Indigo (Champagne, Pumpkin, Mahogany, Chocolate, Espresso), it is not recommended to lighten the hair afterwards. Remember to inform your hairdresser which colours you have used in your hair.
- Nordic Shades on botanical hair colours: It is possible to use ZENZ Nordic Shades on top of ZENZ plant-based hair colour, but not in lighter shades. Remember to inform your hairdresser which colours you have used in your hair.
- Grey hair: It is important to note that grey hair will not achieve the same colour as the rest of the hair with botanical dyes. Grey hair may take on the colour very warmly and can become yellowish or greenish. Dark results are almost impossible to achieve. Repeated treatments may be required.
